He has been accepted to work with Prof. Kai-wing Chow, renown scholar of late imperial Chinese social and intellectual history and the history of publishing in China. Brian completed his MA thesis “Paratextual Advantages of Versified Pulse Texts: The Theory and Practice of Wang Shuhe’s Rhymed Verses of Pulse-diagnostics in Chinese Medical History, 11th-17th centuries” in the fall of 2019. He applied the French scholar Gérard Genette’s analysis of paratextual elements of books to the medieval and early modern publishing history of one of the “bestsellers” in Chinese medical history.  We wish Brian well in his new stage as a PhD student at UIUC.
