Squashwise, a youth development program providing academic and social support to Baltimore City public school students, has been named the 2016 recipient of the Henrietta Lacks Memorial Award. Squashwise was cofounded by IHM alum Abby Markoe (’11) in 2007 with the aim of combining academic tutoring with instruction in the sport of squash. The Henrietta Lacks Memorial Award, administered by the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute, celebrates community-university collaborations and supports these efforts with a $15,000 award to one community organization annually.
Congratulations Abby and Squashwise!
